Sheep River Falls Kananaskis Country Southern Alberta

I can't say that we are impartial to Kananaskis country, as we absolutely love it out there and we haven't even scratched the surface on the area as far as exploring goes, looking forward to when things warm up again in the spring of 2024. We've been to Sheep River Falls before but once you miss a few years it's like seeing it all over gain with a fresh set of eyes.

We went out to the area of Sheep River Falls but we did not stop there, we venture about and found some great hiking trails and did some exploring, it got late in the day far too soon, sad to say. There was a threat of potential rain but thankfully it skirted around us so we did not have to flee. I don't mind a little bit of rain while we are out hiking but I don't want to get drenched, as that can lead to all kinds of other things, like the sniffles, a cold or just feeling blah, so hey. Stay safe, be on the lookout for wildlife and make sure you have all the necessary hiking accoutrements with you that are definitely needed. Hey, please subscribe to KassDays on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, we would so much appreciate it!

Writing on Stone Provnicial Park - Southern Alberta

Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park in Southern Alberta is a natural, cultural and historical treasure that attracts visitors from all over the world. Nestled in the heart of the Milk River Valley, the park is situated on an unique geological formation known as hoodoos. These are tall, thin rock pillars with rock layers of different colours. The park's beautiful landscape, lush vegetation, and diverse wildlife make it an ideal destination for those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

However, the park's most notable feature is its collection of pictographs and petroglyphs, which are ancient rock paintings and carvings created by the indigenous people of the region. The Blackfoot and other indigenous tribes consider the park a sacred site, and it is protected as a national historic site.

Visitors can explore the park through its various hiking trails and guided tours. They can see the ancient paintings and carvings, including depictions of animals, hunting scenes and spiritual symbols. The park offers a unique opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the indigenous people of the area.

In addition to the cultural aspects of the park, visitors can also enjoy recreational activities such as camping, fishing, and kayaking in the Milk River. The warm weather and long daylight hours of the summer are especially conducive for outdoor activities.

Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park is a rare gem in the beautiful and expansive wilderness of Southern Alberta. It's a destination that truly offers something for everyone, regardless of age or interest. Whether you're a history buff, nature enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this park is definitely worth a visit.
