Millarville Skijor Showdown: Alberta's Thrilling Winter Kick-Off
Get ready for an unforgettable day of high-speed action this Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Millarville Racetrack and Agriculture Society in Millarville, Alberta. The Millarville Skijor Showdown, presented by Skijor Alberta, marks the organization's debut event and brings the fast-growing sport of skijoring to the Foothills.
In skijoring, a skier is towed at breakneck speeds, often exceeding 40 km/h, behind a galloping horse (or team) through a course featuring gates, jumps, and rings. It's a perfect fusion of expert horsemanship, skiing skill, and pure adrenaline, rooted in western cowboy traditions with a modern twist.
Gates open at 11:00 AM MST, with the main races starting around noon. The day includes competitive skijor events, classic cowboy curling, a western market with vendors, a Bottlescrew Bill’s beer garden, and a fun "red carpet" entrance where rodeo princesses judge best-dressed attendees (male, female, and child categories). Dress in your finest western flair for the festive vibe!
Rescheduled from an earlier date due to snow conditions, this event launches Skijor Alberta's mission to grow and promote competitive skijoring across the province, with more races planned ahead.Tickets are selling fast—grab yours now via Showpass (search "Millarville Skijor Showdown"). Bundle up, head to the track, and experience the exciting collision of horses, skis, speed, and Alberta grit on snow!
