Bison, Hot Springs, and the Legendary Signpost Forest with KassDays

Alaska Highway Adventure: Day 4 – Bison, Hot Springs, and the Legendary Signpost Forest Over a year and a half ago, I embarked on an unforgettable road trip along the historic Alaska Highway, and Day 4 still stands out as pure magic. Starting from the stunning shores of Muncho Lake in British Columbia, the drive took us north toward Watson Lake in the Yukon, filled with jaw-dropping wildlife and natural wonders. The morning kicked off with incredible sightings: mountain goats (ibexes) grazing roadside, followed by herds of wood bison casually crossing the highway. Driving slowly through these wild encounters was thrilling—and a reminder to stay cautious and in the vehicle! A highlight was soaking in the soothing, sulphur-scented waters of Liard River Hot Springs. Surrounded by forest and bear-safety signs, the natural pools offered the perfect relaxing break amid the adventure. As fall colours painted the landscape in vibrant yellows, we pulled over for views of the crystal-clear Liard River, then crossed into the Yukon north of the 60th parallel—complete with iconic border signs. The day wrapped up at Watson Lake's world-famous Signpost Forest. Originating in 1942 during Alaska Highway construction, it now boasts over 100,000 signs from towns worldwide. Wandering through this quirky collection—license plates, homemade plaques, and messages from afar—felt like a global meet-up in the wilderness. This day captured the raw beauty of northern Canada: wildlife, relaxation, history, and endless discovery. If you're planning a road trip, the Alaska Highway delivers!
